Per True's IOM, on mechanical-control freezers "the compressor only will start if the temperature control is calling for cooling. (If the compressor does not start, verify that the temperature control is not in the 'OFF' or '0' position...)" -- a failed or miscalibrated control is a direct cause of a cabinet that won't cool or won't cycle off.

OEM defrost termination switch (True 850827, 37T21) lists at $206.83 on Parts Town. True's IOM describes the defrost sequence: "the compressor and evaporator fan(s) will turn off and the evaporator coil heater and drain tube heater will be energized... After the predetermined evaporator coil temperature has been reached or duration for defrost has expired, the compressor will restart." The manual does not name this switch by part number, but this is exactly the temperature-sensing function it performs; a failed unit can leave the freezer stuck in defrost (heater running, no cooling) or end defrost early, leaving frost buildup.

True's IOM states: "Condensers accumulate dirt and require cleaning every 30 days. Dirty condensers result in compressor failure, product loss, and lost sales."
