# Southbend S36D Parts & Repair Costs: Used-Buy Risk Guide | KitchenRisk

> Southbend S36D: used $1,329–$1,620, OEM part prices, the documented failures that actually cost money, and what to inspect before you buy used.

**Verdict:** inspect

$1,329–$1,620 observed used across two listings, thin comp set. Biggest documented cost risk: pilot ignition failure traced to the thermocouple or the pilot safety valve. Verify the serial against the 2006 Robertshaw gas-control recall first. Buy only after inspection.

**Observed used price:** $1,329–$1,620

**Documented failure risks:**
- Pilot ignition system: Pilot ignition failure is the dominant complaint pattern on this range family, and service techs name three root causes: a dirty or misaligned thermocouple, a low pilot flame, and a worn pilot safety valve.
- Thermocouple and pilot safety valve: Service guides give a fixed diagnostic order for that failure: check pilot flame height first, then measure thermocouple millivolt output and replace the thermocouple if it does not rise above 10 mV under load, then replace the pilot safety valve if the thermocouple swap does not fix it.
